Baku’s $29 e-Visa Clears in 3 Days. Autumn’s Wide Open

Twenty-nine dollars.

That’s the entire visa bill for one person going to Baku. Paid by card, on your phone, at 11pm, from your bedroom.

No embassy queue on Khayaban-e-Iqbal. No agent holding your passport for two weeks and calling it “processing.”

Pakistan Observer reported that the single-entry 30-day Azerbaijan e-visit visa sits at **$20 in the standard category, with a $9 service fee on top, taking the total to $29**. Standard applications are decided in three working days. Need it faster? The urgent tier is $50 and gets looked at in about three hours.

Three hours. For a visa. While your family is still arguing about dates.

Azerbaijan didn’t make the visa-free list. It doesn’t matter

Gulf News published its August update on the Pakistani passport this month, listing 29 destinations open to Pakistanis through visa-free entry, visa on arrival, or an ETA, with Pakistan’s ranking moving to 101st globally (Gulf News).

Azerbaijan isn’t on it. Pakistanis still need a visa before boarding.

But “needs a visa” and “difficult” stopped being the same sentence years ago. The ASAN portal at evisa.gov.az takes three steps: apply, pay, download. The approval lands in your inbox as a PDF. Azerbaijan’s official e-visa portal states that citizens of 95 countries can use ASAN Visa, and that the urgent application is considered within three hours regardless of holidays and non-working days.

Print two copies. Carry them with the passport. Done.

Here’s what you’re actually buying:

WhatDetail
Standard e-visa fee$20
Service fee$9
Standard processing3 working days
Urgent option$50, considered in about 3 hours
Permitted stay30 days, single entry
Visa validity90 days from issue
Longer stay or multiple entryEmbassy application, not e-visa

That last row is the one families get wrong. If you want to fly Baku, hop to Tbilisi for four days, then come back into Azerbaijan, the $29 single-entry e-visa won’t carry you. That’s an embassy visa. Sort it before you book anything.

Why the September to November window beats summer in Baku

Baku in August is hot, humid, and full of Gulf holidaymakers. Baku from mid-September onward is a different city. Sweater weather on the Caspian boulevard. Empty stone lanes in the Old City at 9am. Hotel rates that behave like a shoulder season, because it is one.

Autumn is also when the cultural side of the country actually works. Walking the UNESCO-listed Old City, Icherisheher, is miserable at 38 degrees and lovely at 22. The Pakistan Observer piece points to that Old City, the Flame Towers, and the Caspian Sea Boulevard as the core of what visitors come for.

Go beyond the capital and it gets better. Gobustan’s rock carvings, an open-air record of people who lived there thousands of years before anyone drew a border. Sheki, in the foothills, with its stained-glass shebeke windows and a caravanserai that once housed Silk Road traders. Quba and Gabala when the leaves turn.

And the thing your mother will ask about first: Azerbaijan is a Muslim-majority country. Meat is widely halal, mosques are everywhere, and nobody looks confused when you ask.

You’re looking at a four-hour flying time from Karachi in a country where your family eats normally and the history is older than the Silk Road. Read the country detail on our Azerbaijan page before you pick cities.

Your connection matters more than your hotel right now

This is the part a brochure won’t tell you.

There is no reliable nonstop from Karachi to Baku at the moment. FareCompare states plainly that there are no nonstop flights on the route and every option involves at least one stop. In practice you’re connecting through Dubai, Doha, Sharjah, or Istanbul.

And that’s where today’s news cycle walks into your itinerary.

OPSGROUP’s briefing on the Middle East reports that EASA has updated its conflict zone bulletins after the regional situation deteriorated, now advising operators to avoid airspace over Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE, and the Gulf of Oman west of 58°E at all levels, with existing avoid-at-all-levels bulletins for Iran, Iraq and Lebanon unchanged (OPSGROUP). Safe Airspace’s summary notes the US-Iran ceasefire has effectively broken down, with renewed military action around the Strait of Hormuz (Safe Airspace).

Nobody is telling you Baku is dangerous. Azerbaijan sits in the South Caucasus, outside those bulletins.

Your connection is the exposure. A Gulf-hub layover in this news cycle means a real chance of delays, rerouting, and the specific misery of a rebooking queue at 2am with a sleeping six-year-old on your shoulder.

Rahat spent years inside Qatar Airways before co-founding Zaviamo. When she looks at a Baku itinerary right now, she looks at the routing first, not the resort. Istanbul as a connection point sits well away from the Gulf bulletins, and Turkish Airlines flies Karachi to Istanbul on a schedule Karachi families already know. If you’re stitching a Turkey stopover into the same trip, that’s not a compromise. That’s two heritage cities for one long-haul.

A package agency sells you a Baku itinerary with whatever connection has the fattest commission. Nobody checks the airspace picture the week you fly. That’s the model, not the person selling it.

Package vs custom, on this specific trip

Zaviamo has never sold a package. Not one. That started with a Turkey trip Ali booked through a Karachi agency that refused to add a day in Cappadocia, shrugged at a halal restaurant question, and went quiet after payment. His wife Rahat, who knew the industry from inside an airline, called it what it was: a reselling business, not a travel business. That conversation is why Zaviamo exists.

If you’d rather type than talk, the trip planning form works too.

Frequently Asked Questions

How much does the Azerbaijan e-visa cost for Pakistani passport holders?

Pakistan Observer reported the standard single-entry 30-day e-visit visa at $20, with a $9 processing service fee, for a total of $29. Standard applications are decided within three working days. The urgent tier costs $50 and is considered in roughly three hours.

Is there a direct flight from Karachi to Baku?

Not currently. FareCompare states there are no nonstop flights between Karachi and Baku, so every itinerary involves at least one stop, usually Dubai, Doha, Sharjah, or Istanbul. Which hub you pick matters more than usual this season.

Is Azerbaijan affected by the current Middle East airspace warnings?

Azerbaijan itself is in the South Caucasus and sits outside the EASA conflict zone bulletins covering Iran, Iraq, Lebanon and the Gulf states. Your connecting flight may not be. OPSGROUP reports EASA now advises operators to avoid Gulf airspace including Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and the UAE at all levels, so the smarter move is choosing a routing away from those hubs.

When is the best time to visit Baku from Pakistan?

Mid-September through November. The heat drops to walking weather for the Old City and Gobustan, crowds thin out after the Gulf summer season, and hotel rates soften. It also means booking now rather than in the December rush.

P.S. The autumn window is short. Baku’s good weather runs out around late November, and the winter school break pushes fares up long before December. The $29 visa clears in three working days. Your routing decision is the one that takes actual thinking, and it’s the one nobody in a package office is doing for you. Plan my Azerbaijan trip on WhatsApp

P.P.S. If you’re crossing into Georgia and coming back, say so in your first message. That single detail changes your visa type, and it’s cheaper to fix now than at Heydar Aliyev arrivals.
