Catch Malaysia’s New eVISA Rule Before December Break

Parasailing at sunset off the Langkawi coast, Malaysia, after a Malaysia eVisa from Pakistan

A half-finished visa form is the most expensive thing sitting on your laptop tonight.

Not the flight. Not the villa you keep reopening on your phone at 1am.

The form.

Parked at “Pending Payment” because you wanted to confirm dates with your brother-in-law before paying.

From October 1, Malaysia starts deleting those forms.

The official MYVISA portal now states that from 1 October 2026, any application left in “New” or “Pending Payment” status for more than 7 working days without the required action will be automatically expired and removed from your application list. Not flagged. Not held. Removed.

You start again from a blank screen. In the busiest booking month of the Pakistani travel calendar.

What Actually Changed, In One Line

Malaysia put a 7-working-day clock on your unfinished application.

That’s it. The visa itself didn’t get harder. The waiting didn’t get shorter. What changed is that indecision now has a cost, and the cost lands on the family that planned last.

Pakistani passport holders don’t get visa on arrival in Malaysia, so the eVISA has to be approved before you fly, as trips.pk notes in its Malaysia visa guide. Miss it and there’s no counter at KLIA that will fix your morning.

Now add the December math.

Winter school break in Karachi starts in the second half of December. Malaysia eVISA applications are typically processed in 5 to 10 working days, and DTravel lists the government fee at roughly PKR 8,000 to 12,000 before agent charges. Single entry, 30 days of stay.

Count backwards from a December 20 departure. Ten working days of processing. A 7-working-day deletion clock on top if anyone dawdles at the payment screen. Add the Eid-style scramble that always hits in the first week of December when everyone’s cousin decides they’re coming too.

That’s not a lot of room.

Why The Deletion Rule Hurts Families More Than Solo Travellers

One traveller, one form, one card payment. Fine.

Six travellers, two of whom are your parents, one of whom is a nine-year-old whose passport expires in four months. Somebody’s documents are always the slow one.

The package model handles this badly by design. A fixed itinerary needs your money before it needs your details, so the paperwork gets treated as your homework and the “sort it out on the ground” shrug arrives later.

Zaviamo has never sold a package, and this rule is a decent example of why. A template can’t tell you that your father’s passport renewal now sits in front of the visa application, which now sits in front of the Langkawi ferry timing, which sits in front of the flight you’re eyeing. That’s a sequence, not a brochure.

File It In This Order

  1. Passport check first. Six months of validity beyond your return date, for every single traveller. Do this before anyone opens the eVISA portal.
  2. Lock your dates before you open the form. Not “mid-December”. Actual dates. The 7-working-day clock starts the moment you create the application.
  3. Upload and pay in the same sitting. Photo, passport bio page, itinerary, accommodation proof, bank statements. Then pay. Walking away from the payment screen is now the expensive move.
  4. File the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card separately. It’s free and mandatory, and AEL Consultants notes it must be completed online within 3 days before arrival. It is not part of your eVISA.
  5. Then book the hotels you actually want. Not the ones left over after December inventory gets eaten.

If you’d rather hand the sequence to someone else, tell us your dates through the planning form and we’ll work backwards from your departure date.

Penang And Langkawi Beat The KL-And-Genting Template

George Town, Penang street market at dusk, a stop worth planning after a Malaysia eVisa from Pakistan

Here’s where most Malaysia trips from Karachi go wrong. They become four nights in Kuala Lumpur, one day at Genting, a mall, and a photo outside the Twin Towers.

Malaysia is better than that.

Apricot Tours lists Penang, Langkawi and Malacca as strong value options alongside KL, and for a family with kids, that’s the real trip. Penang for food your children will actually eat, where halal isn’t a special request. Langkawi for a beach that doesn’t need a resort transfer priced in dollars. Cameron Highlands for tea slopes and a jacket in December, which is a novelty when you’ve flown out of Karachi.

Our founder Ali got the Cappadocia version of this answer years ago. He asked a Karachi agency for one extra day. The reply was that the package doesn’t allow it. That conversation with his wife Rahat, then working at Qatar Airways, is the reason Zaviamo exists.

One extra night in Langkawi shouldn’t require permission.

The Routing Question People Check Last

Your visa can be perfect and your flight can still be the problem this season.

EASA’s conflict-zone bulletin CZIB-2026-07R2 covers the airspace of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE and Oman, and remains active until 30 September 2026 unless reviewed earlier. Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah airports stay open, with no blanket suspension of flights reported, but September has brought rolling delays and rerouting at DXB and Zayed International as airlines adjust around higher-risk Gulf airspace.

Practical translation for a December trip to Malaysia: a 75-minute connection through a Gulf hub is a bad bet right now. Rahat’s years inside airline operations are exactly what that call needs, because the difference between a 75-minute and a 3-hour layover is the difference between arriving in Penang and sleeping at a transit gate with a toddler.

Longer connection buffers. Alternative hubs. Same-day rebooking options written down before you fly, not googled at a help desk.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do Pakistani passport holders need a visa for Malaysia?

Yes. Malaysia does not offer visa on arrival for Pakistani citizens, so an eVISA or sticker visa must be approved before departure. The single-entry eVISA allows a 30-day stay and is applied for online through the official Malaysian portal.

What happens if my Malaysia eVISA application sits unpaid after October 1?

From 1 October 2026, any application in “New” or “Pending Payment” status for more than 7 working days without the required action is automatically expired and removed from your application list. You would need to start a fresh application. For a December departure, that lost time is the real risk, not the fee.

Is the Malaysia Digital Arrival Card separate from the eVISA?

Yes. The Malaysia Digital Arrival Card is a free, mandatory online form completed within 3 days before arrival, and it does not replace your visa. Travellers who file the visa correctly and forget the arrival card still hit trouble at immigration.

How early should Karachi families apply for December travel?

Work backwards from your flight date and allow 5 to 10 working days for eVISA processing, plus buffer for passport renewals and document corrections. Filing in early October for a late-December trip leaves room for one mistake. Filing in the first week of December leaves room for none.

P.S. The families who get Langkawi in late December aren’t luckier. They filed in October while everyone else was still deciding whether to go. The deletion rule just made that gap wider. Plan my Malaysia trip on WhatsApp

P.P.S. If your passport has under six months of validity left, that’s today’s job. Not the visa. Not the flight. The passport.
