Nine at night in a Canggu villa. Laptop open, a client call with Karachi on the other side of the screen, scooters buzzing past the gate, the invoice already cleared in dollars.
That part actually works.
The part nobody posts about: Indonesian immigration has stepped up checks on remote workers, including deportations of people working on tourist visas and monitoring of public social media posts, according to Emerhub’s 2026 remote worker visa guide.
So if Bali is going to be your base instead of your holiday, you need the right door.
There are two.
They cost wildly different amounts, and most people pick wrong because a Facebook group told them “just extend your tourist visa, everyone does it.”
The $60,000 Door: Indonesia’s E33G Remote Worker Visa
Short answer: this is the one most Karachi remote earners should look at first, and the income bar is the whole story.

The E33G asks for at least USD 60,000 a year in foreign-sourced income, around USD 5,000 a month, plus an employment contract with a company registered outside Indonesia and a personal bank statement showing at least USD 2,000 over the last three months (Emerhub, 2026).
It runs one year. Multiple entry. You can bring family. It doesn’t extend, so staying longer means filing again.
And there’s one hard line. Your income has to come from outside Indonesia. Take a single local client, even one that pays you in dollars, and you’ve broken the permit.
That detail matters if you’re a designer or a dev who says yes to everything. One Bali hotel retainer and your legal stay is gone.
The $130,000 Door: The E33 Second Home Visa
This one buys years, not months.
The Second Home Visa qualifies you on a bank deposit of IDR 2 billion, roughly USD 130,000, held in your own name at an Indonesian state bank such as Mandiri, BNI, BRI or BTN, or on property in Indonesia worth at least USD 1 million under Hak Pakai title (Emerhub Second Home Visa guide).
North of Rs 3 crore parked, at today’s rates. Read that twice before you fall in love with a villa.
Two things soften it. The money stays in your own account and earns interest the whole time. And after three years of living in Indonesia, it can lead to KITAP, permanent residency.
One thing tightens it. Your visa gets approved on a written promise, then you have 90 days from approval to place the deposit or show the property. Miss the window and the visa lapses.
No local work. No Indonesian income. Same wall as the E33G.

The Tax Trap That Eats The Savings

Cross 183 days in Indonesia and you’re looking at tax residency. On the E33G you almost certainly will.
The foreign-income exemption gets quoted like gospel in nomad forums. It’s shakier than that. AffordWhere’s Indonesia guide warns that the exemption has been applied unevenly and challenged in court, so building your finances around “foreign income is tax-free” is a bad plan.
Talk to a cross-border tax advisor before you fly, not after your first Indonesian tax year closes. That conversation costs less than back taxes.
Your Flights Are The Part That’s Actually Moving Right Now
This is the bit a visa blog won’t tell you, and it’s the reason your October dates could get ugly.
Karachi to Denpasar means a Gulf hub, and the Gulf is not routine at the moment. OPSGROUP’s Middle East airspace picture reports US-Iran fighting has eased with no firm ceasefire, Kuwait closed to overflights until October 2, and Iran open again only on limited routes above FL285. Most operators are still going around, via Egypt and Saudi.
Wego’s live disruption blog has logged carriers cancelling and adjusting Gulf services through August, with EASA still advising against Iranian airspace.
Translation for you: longer sectors, tighter aircraft rotations, and connections that look fine on Skyscanner and fall apart on the day.
Rahat spent years inside Qatar Airways operations before she co-founded Zaviamo with Ali. When she builds a Karachi to Bali routing right now, she’s picking the connection with a real buffer and a same-airline rebooking path, not the one that saves you $40 and 50 minutes. That’s the whole reason Zaviamo exists.
Why No Package Can Do This Trip
A package agency sells you seven nights in Seminyak. Fine for a honeymoon.

You’re not asking for seven nights. You’re asking whether to move your working life to an island for a year, which villa contract won’t scam you, which neighbourhood has fibre that survives a Kuta afternoon, whether Ubud or Sanur suits a family that prays five times a day and needs school options.
No set itinerary has an answer to that. It was never built to.
Zaviamo has never sold a package. We build the trip you actually need, which for this decision is usually a 2 to 3 week recce, not a five-year commitment sight unseen. Cafes with real upload speeds. Villa viewings. Halal food that isn’t a 40-minute scooter ride. A visa consultation with a licensed Indonesian agent while you’re on the ground.
Book that recce for the October and November shoulder window and you’ll know by December whether Bali is your base or just a nice three weeks.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can a Pakistani freelancer get Bali’s E33G remote worker visa?
Yes, if the money holds up. The E33G needs at least USD 60,000 a year in foreign-sourced income plus a contract with a company registered outside Indonesia, per Emerhub’s 2026 guide. Every client has to sit outside Indonesia, and one local client breaks the permit.
How long do I have to place the Second Home Visa deposit?
Ninety days from approval. Your visa is granted on a written commitment first, then you place the IDR 2 billion deposit at an Indonesian state bank in your own name or show qualifying property, otherwise the visa lapses.
Will I pay tax in Indonesia if I live in Bali for a year?
Probably worth planning for it. Past 183 days you’re looking at tax residency, and the foreign-income exemption has been applied unevenly and challenged in court. Get a cross-border tax advisor before you fly.
Are Karachi to Bali flights affected by the Gulf situation?
Routing is, yes. OPSGROUP reports Kuwait closed to overflights until October 2 and Iranian airspace open only on limited high-altitude routes, with most operators still going via Egypt and Saudi. Build long connection buffers and check flight status before you leave for the airport.
P.S. The 90-day deposit clock is the deadline nobody plans for. People fall in love with a Pererenan villa in November, file in December, and discover in March that IDR 2 billion has to be sitting in a BNI account before the calendar runs out. Start planning your Bali trip on WhatsApp and we’ll work backwards from your dates.
P.P.S. If $130,000 parked in a foreign bank makes your stomach turn, good instinct. Fly the recce first.
