A family in Karachi paid their deposit in good faith.
Booked the flights. Packed the ihram. Memorised the duas.
Then, three weeks before departure, the operator called. The visa had been issued late, and the 30-day entry clock had already started ticking. Their dates no longer lined up with their flights.
They lost a week of their trip to a rule they didn’t know existed.
This is the quiet truth about Umrah from Pakistan in 2026. The intention is the easy part. The logistics are where good families get caught out. And this year, more than usual, the rules have moved.
The season just reopened, and summer is the window
Here’s the timing that matters for your family right now.
Saudi Arabia’s Ministry of Hajj and Umrah confirmed that the issuance of Umrah visas and the arrival of pilgrims began on May 31, 2026, with pilgrims able to enter Makkah and obtain Umrah permits through the Nusuk application starting June 1, 2026.

So the new season is live. And it lands right on top of Pakistan’s summer school break, the biggest outbound window of the year.
July and August are when post-Hajj Umrah peaks. It’s also when Karachi families are off, kids are free, and the heat at home makes the idea of any trip tempting.
That’s the opportunity. But it’s also when operator inventory and good hotel rooms near the Haram start moving fast.
The 7 rules that trip up Pakistani families
Most of these aren’t in the brochure. They surface at the desk, or worse, at the airport.
1. You can’t apply on Nusuk yourself. Pakistani passport holders cannot apply for an Umrah visa directly on Nusuk. All applications must go through a licensed Umrah tour operator attested by the Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony of Pakistan, working with a Saudi-approved service provider.
2. The entry window shrank. As of October 2025, the Umrah visa entry window was reduced from 90 days to 30 days from issuance. You must enter Saudi Arabia within 30 days of visa issuance, the permitted stay must not exceed 30 days, and extensions are not possible. This is the rule that cost that Karachi family their week.
3. Nusuk is mandatory, even on a permit. For Umrah 2026, Nusuk is mandatory for all pilgrims regardless of visa type, and without confirmed Nusuk-linked bookings, Umrah permits will not be issued even if you hold a valid visa.
4. The visa fee is small. The trip isn’t. The Umrah visa fee set by the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah is SAR 300, roughly PKR 22,300, for pilgrims arriving from outside Saudi Arabia. That’s just one line item, which brings us to the next rule.
5. Budget realistically. A Pakistani pilgrim’s full Umrah cost in 2026 usually falls between PKR 220,000 and PKR 500,000 or more, driven overwhelmingly by flights, hotel category and season. Summer and non-Ramadan months sit at the lower end of that range.
6. The meningitis vaccine rule changed. The Saudi government suspended the mandatory meningococcal ACWY vaccine requirement for Umrah in February 2025, so it is no longer required for visa issuance, but it is still strongly recommended by health authorities. Many families still get told the old rule by people who haven’t updated.
7. Women have more freedom than they think. Saudi Arabia has significantly relaxed the Mahram, or male guardian, rule, and women are now generally permitted to travel for Umrah without a Mahram, provided they meet the standard visa requirements.
Why the visa date is really a flights problem
The 30-day entry window sounds like paperwork. It isn’t. It’s an aviation timing problem dressed up as a visa rule.
If your visa issues on the 5th and your flights are booked for the 28th, you’ve burned 23 of your 30 days before you’ve left Karachi. Get the sequencing wrong and you either fly early, change tickets, or lose days in the Kingdom.
This is exactly the kind of thing Rahat watches. Before co-founding Zaviamo with Ali, she spent years inside Qatar Airways, where the gap between a visa date and a flight date is the difference between a smooth trip and a scramble. You can read more about how that aviation background shapes the way we plan on the meet the founders page.
A package treats your visa and your flights as two separate boxes to tick. We treat them as one timeline that has to fit together.
Package agency vs custom Umrah planning
This is where the package model quietly fails pilgrims. A pre-built Umrah package is designed to be sold to a hundred families. Your family is one of them, and the dates, the hotel distance from the Haram, the layover length, none of it bends to you.
| Package Umrah | Custom Umrah with Zaviamo |
| Fixed dates set by the operator | Dates built around your school break and visa timing |
| Hotel “near Haram” (could be a long walk) | Hotel distance confirmed before you pay |
| Visa and flights handled separately | One timeline, sequenced together |
| Office hours only | WhatsApp answered late, because flights don’t wait |
| You get a booking | You get a trip planned for your family |
When Ali tried to book a family trip through a Karachi agency, the package wouldn’t flex for a single extra day. That frustration is why Zaviamo exists, and you can read the full story of how Zaviamo started. We’ve never sold a package since. Not one.
For Umrah, that matters more than almost anywhere. The rituals are fixed. The logistics around them shouldn’t be a template.
Frequently Asked Questions
Can Pakistanis apply for an Umrah visa on Nusuk directly in 2026?
No. Pakistani passport holders cannot apply for an Umrah visa directly on Nusuk. All applications must go through a licensed Umrah tour operator attested by Pakistan’s Ministry of Religious Affairs and Interfaith Harmony, working with a Saudi-approved service provider. Always confirm your operator is on the attested list before paying any deposit.
How long is the Umrah visa valid in 2026?
As of October 2025, the Umrah visa entry window was reduced from 90 days to 30 days from issuance. You must enter Saudi Arabia within 30 days of the visa being issued, your stay cannot exceed 30 days, and extensions are not possible. This makes the timing between your visa and your flights critical.
How much does an Umrah trip from Pakistan cost in summer 2026?
The Saudi visa fee itself is SAR 300, roughly PKR 22,300. The full trip cost for a Pakistani pilgrim in 2026 usually falls between PKR 220,000 and PKR 500,000 or more, depending mostly on flights, hotel category and season. Summer and non-Ramadan months sit at the lower, cheaper end.
Do I still need the meningitis vaccine for Umrah?
The Saudi government suspended the mandatory meningococcal ACWY vaccine requirement for Umrah in February 2025. It is no longer required for visa issuance, though it is still strongly recommended by health authorities. Check with your operator for the current health guidance before you travel.
Can women perform Umrah without a Mahram in 2026?
Yes. Saudi Arabia has significantly relaxed the Mahram, or male guardian, rule. Women are now generally permitted to travel for Umrah without a Mahram, provided they meet the standard visa requirements. Many Pakistani women now travel in family groups or organised parties without a male guardian.

P.S. That 30-day entry window is the single most common reason families lose days on Umrah. Get the visa date and the flight date wrong and no amount of dua fixes the booking. We sequence them together, on one timeline, before you pay. That’s the whole point.
