And the officer asks for a form you’ve never heard of.
Not the visa. Something new. And half the passengers ahead of you are scrambling on their phones at the desk, because nobody told them either.
That form is real. It’s been mandatory since October 2025. And most of the “book Bali now” posts you’ve read don’t mention it once.
So before you put down a deposit for the summer break, here are five truths about Bali on a Pakistani passport. The ones the brochure skips.
1. Bali Is Not Visa-Free. And The Sources Contradict Each Other.
Let’s kill the confusion first.
Bali is not visa-free for Pakistani passport holders. That much every source agrees on.
After that, they split. Some Pakistani travel sites list Visa on Arrival as available. Others say the opposite. One popular guide states plainly that Pakistani passport holders need a visa before arrival in Indonesia, and Visa on Arrival is not available for Pakistanis.
So which is it?
The safe answer for a family: don’t gamble at the airport. Apply for the eVisa online before you fly. The standard processing time for the B1 e-VOA is 3 to 5 business days, and the official government fee is IDR 500,000, roughly USD 35.
One traveller who did it himself reported paying more once card taxes were added: the online payment came to IDR 1,000,000, around PKR 18,800, depending on which card you use and how much tax your bank deducts.
Translation. Budget for the fee, apply early, and never rely on a “we’ll sort it at the airport” promise. Because with kids in tow, the airport is the worst place to discover a rule changed.
2. The All Indonesia Arrival Card Is Not A Visa. But You Still Need It.
Here’s the one that trips people up.
The government replaced all paper customs cards in October 2025, and every foreign passenger must now complete the digital All Indonesia Arrival Card.
It’s separate from your visa. The new All Indonesia Arrival Card is not a visa. It’s a mandatory digital entry declaration covering immigration, customs and health, but it does not replace visa requirements.
Skip it, and you wait. Authorities require digital declarations upon arrival, and failing to complete these forms in advance will cause significant delays at immigration checkpoints.
Fill it out before you board. Not in the queue with a screaming toddler.
3. Halal Food And Family Resorts Exist. Bali Just Doesn’t Hand Them To You.
Bali is a Hindu-majority island. That surprises Pakistani families expecting a Malaysia-style halal setup on every corner.
The good stays are there. You just have to know them by name.
According to a family-resort roundup, Kayon Jungle Resort in Ubud offers private pool villas surrounded by jungle, positioned for Muslim couples seeking a peaceful, halal-friendly stay. For families, other Seminyak and Nusa Dua properties list in-house halal-certified restaurants, alcohol-free dining and supervised kids’ clubs.
But “halal-friendly” on a website and halal-certified on the plate are two different things. A resort that keeps a prayer mat in the wardrobe isn’t the same as one with a certified kitchen. The gap between those two is exactly where a package leaves you guessing on day three.
And the location matters more than the label. For families, the data is clear: higher-activity areas include the Kuta and Legian nightlife strips late at night, while Ubud, Sanur and Nusa Dua are consistently rated the safest for families and long-term residents.
So the smart move isn’t “book Bali.” It’s book the right corner of Bali, with a kitchen you’ve actually confirmed.
4. Bali Is Safe For Families. Respect The Two Real Risks.
Don’t let the advisories scare you off. They’re about awareness, not avoidance.
Bali remains open to tourists. Flights are operating normally. Hotels and resorts continue to welcome guests. The official update is a reminder to stay alert, not a travel ban.
The numbers back that up. Bali recorded 6,948,754 international arrivals in 2025, a 9.72 percent year-on-year increase. Nearly seven million people, and no Bali-specific travel restrictions from Australia, with petty theft and tourist scams the most common risks while serious crime targeting visitors is statistically rare.
Two things actually deserve your attention with kids.
Water. Rough seas and strong rip currents at popular beaches, including in Bali, have caused drownings. Pick resorts with calm swimming and watch the little ones near the shore.
Weather timing. The summer school break falls inside Bali’s wetter months. Heavy rainfall during the monsoon season may lead to flooding and landslides. It won’t ruin the trip. It just means your itinerary needs to flex around the sky, which a fixed 7-day package can’t do.
5. The Routing Is Where Families Quietly Overspend.
Getting there is half the cost and most of the fatigue.
A journey from Karachi or Lahore to Bali typically takes between 12 and 18 hours depending on your layover, and routing through Kuala Lumpur generally gives the shortest overall travel time.
That layover choice is not a small detail. It decides whether your kids land fresh or fried. It decides whether you’re paying for a red-eye that lines up with a stroller-friendly transit, or an eight-hour dead stop at 3am.
