A resort on a small island off Flores runs on sunlight.
Not partly. Not only in daylight. According to Sudamala Resorts’ announcement on PRNewswire, solar now covers roughly 80 to 85% of operating energy at Sudamala Resort, Seraya in Labuan Bajo. That’s 480 panels, 300 kWp of capacity, and a 770 kWh battery that keeps the lights on after the sun drops behind Komodo.
Around 410,000 kWh of clean power a year. Roughly 370,000 kg of carbon that never gets burned.
And the Indonesia quote sitting in your inbox still says Bali. Six nights, seven days, Ubud swing photo, rice terrace, airport.
That isn’t a trip. That’s a template with your surname typed at the top.
What actually won the award, and where it is
Sudamala Resorts won Best ASEAN Sustainability Programme at the 35th ASEANTA Excellence Awards, handed out on 27 January 2026 in Cebu, per the group’s own announcement. Not a magazine list. A regional industry award judged on long-term environmental and community impact.

The properties sit across Indonesia. The flagship sustainability story sits on Seraya, a speck of an island reached by boat from Labuan Bajo, the gateway town for Komodo National Park.
Which is about 700 km east of the Bali your agent keeps quoting.
Same country. Same visa. Completely different holiday.
Pink-sand beach at Padar. Manta rays at Karang Makassar. Boat days where your kids see reef fish instead of another buffet queue.

Why September to November is the window
Book this for the shoulder season, not for December.
Late September through November is when the Sept-Nov value window opens across Southeast Asia: softer rates, thinner crowds, and weather that still behaves. TripIt’s 2026 affordable travel guide puts the steepest post-peak discounts in exactly this stretch.
It’s also the tail of dry season around Flores, before the December rush from Jakarta and Sydney takes the good boats.
You’re roughly six to twelve weeks out. That’s the booking sweet spot for small properties, because small properties don’t have 400 rooms to dump on you at the last minute. Seraya-style resorts sell out by inventory, not by discount.
Miss it and you’re buying December prices for October weather.
The routing question that decides your whole trip
There are no direct flights between Pakistan and Indonesia. Every itinerary you get quoted runs through a hub, and visa guidance for Pakistani citizens lists Dubai and Kuala Lumpur as the two standard connection points.

Which hub you pick is not a small detail right now.
Regional airspace is under active advisories. OPSGROUP’s Middle East operational picture notes EASA has told operators to avoid the airspace of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE and the Gulf of Oman west of 58 degrees East at all levels, with separate bulletins still standing over Iran, Iraq and Lebanon. CNN’s live coverage on 1 August 2026 reported the US-Iran conflict ongoing, a State Department warning to Americans across the Middle East, and drones intercepted over Kuwait.
Flights are still operating. But schedule risk, rerouting and knock-on delays are real, and a missed connection matters far more when your onward leg is a once-daily hop to a regional airport like Labuan Bajo.
This is where Rahat’s read is worth more than a booking screen. She spent years at Qatar Airways before co-founding Zaviamo with Ali, so she looks at a Karachi to Indonesia itinerary the way an airline planner does: minimum connection times, which leg is the one you cannot rebook, and whether an eastern routing through Kuala Lumpur gives your family more slack than a Gulf turnaround. If Malaysia ends up in your routing, a night in KL is a better answer than a four-hour transit hall.
No package builder is doing that math for you. A package prices the flight. It doesn’t protect the connection.
The visa rule that catches Pakistani families out
Read this line twice: Pakistan has no visa-on-arrival agreement with Indonesia.
Your friend who breezed through Ngurah Rai with a card swipe probably holds a different passport. Per the Pakistani-citizen guidance above, you need a B1 e-VOA approved before you board.
| What you need to know | The detail |
| Fee | IDR 500,000, around USD 35, per person |
| Who pays | Every traveller, infants and children included |
| Processing | 3 to 5 business days |
| Stay allowed | 30 days, extendable once by 30 |
| Passport validity | 6 months from arrival |
| Overstay penalty | IDR 1,000,000 per day |
The official fee is confirmed on Indonesia’s immigration e-visa portal, which also states each traveller, including infants, needs their own approval.
Five children in the family group means five separate approvals and five separate fees. Nobody tells you that on the phone at 6pm, because the office closed at 6pm.
Package agency vs custom trip: same country, different outcome
| Package agency | Zaviamo |
| Bali, 6N/7D, fixed | Flores, Bali, or both, built around your dates |
| Flight priced, connection ignored | Routing checked against current advisories |
| “Apply for the visa yourself” | e-VOA lead time built into your booking dates |
| Halal food “no problem, sir” | Named restaurants and resort kitchens confirmed first |
| Answer at 10am tomorrow | WhatsApp at 11pm tonight |
One honest note on food. Flores is majority Catholic, unlike Muslim-majority Bali and Java, so halal dining in Labuan Bajo needs confirming property by property before you commit, not discovering on day two. That’s a question worth asking out loud. It’s exactly the question the agency that sold Ali a rigid Turkey itinerary shrugged at, which is the reason Zaviamo exists and the reason we’ve never sold a package.
If you’d rather write it out than type on WhatsApp, send us your dates and family size here. Either way, the first quote costs nothing.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do Pakistani passport holders get visa on arrival in Indonesia?
No. Pakistan does not have a visa-exemption or visa-on-arrival agreement with Indonesia, so you must secure a B1 e-VOA online before departure. The government fee is IDR 500,000, roughly USD 35, and processing takes 3 to 5 business days. Every traveller needs their own approval, including infants and children.
When is the best time to visit Labuan Bajo and Komodo?
Late September through November hits the shoulder season, with softer rates, fewer crowds and the tail end of dry weather around Flores. Boats and small resorts have limited inventory, so this window sells out on availability rather than price. December brings both higher rates and the regional holiday rush.
How do you get from Karachi to Labuan Bajo?
There are no direct flights between Pakistan and Indonesia. Most itineraries connect through Dubai or Kuala Lumpur, then Jakarta or Bali, then a domestic hop into Labuan Bajo. Given current Middle East airspace advisories, the choice of hub and the length of each connection matter more than the headline fare.
Start your Indonesia trip before the October rooms go
Small eco-luxury properties don’t have overflow rooms. They have the rooms they have.
Add 3 to 5 business days for the e-VOA, and the October dates you want need deciding now, not after Eid-e-Milad talk dies down at your next dinner in DHA.
Tell us your dates, your family size, and whether you want Flores, Bali, or a week that quietly does both. Start planning your Indonesia trip on WhatsApp. Your first custom quote is free, within 24 hours, zero pressure.

P.S. The award-winning property runs 80-85% of its power off 480 solar panels, and it still isn’t in a single Karachi brochure. That’s not because it’s hard to book. It’s because packages only stock what’s easy to resell. Plan my Indonesia trip on WhatsApp.
P.P.S. Bring up the routing when you message. With Gulf airspace advisories live, the hub you connect through is worth ten minutes of proper thought before anyone takes your deposit.
