Koh Yao Noi. Quarter past six in the morning.
A limestone tower the size of an apartment block stands in flat green water a few hundred metres off the sand. Your eight-year-old is on the beach in pyjamas, pointing at it, asking if people live inside the rock.
Forty-five minutes earlier, that water was Phuket.
The Six Senses Yao Noi listing puts the resort 45 minutes from Phuket by speedboat, in Phang Nga Bay, and flags it as Certified Sustainable in the 2026 Global 100 Villas list.
One boat ride. That’s the whole gap between the Thailand most Karachi families get sold for December and the Thailand they actually pictured.
Thailand’s December Break Is Really Two Different Holidays
The mainland strip and the outer islands are not the same trip, and December is when the gap gets ugly.
Patong. Kata. Karon. Every school calendar in the world overlaps in that last fortnight of December, and the hotels know it. You pay peak rates to share a pool deck with 200 people and queue twice for breakfast eggs.
Then there’s Phang Nga Bay and the Gulf islands. Koh Yao Noi. Koh Kood.

Quieter for one boring reason: they need an extra transfer, and a set itinerary hates extra transfers.
That’s it. That’s the secret. A package can’t absorb a 45-minute speedboat leg without breaking its own timings, so it doesn’t offer you one.
What A Quiet Island Actually Gives Your Family
Space your kids can use without a wristband.
At Six Senses Yao Noi, the listing shows a 154 square metre Hideaway Pool Villa, babysitting services, diving and snorkelling on site, and a 9.6 out of 10 guest score across 65 reviews. Small property. Not a 600-room machine.
Over in the Gulf of Thailand, Soneva Kiri sits on Koh Kood, described by Haute Grandeur as Thailand’s fourth largest but least populated island, roughly an hour by private plane southeast of Bangkok.

Its children’s centre, The Den, was designed by 24H-architecture with a bamboo dome shaped like a manta ray, holding a cinema, an art room, a music room and a library, according to e-architect.
Your kid remembers that dome for a decade. Nobody remembers a hotel breakfast buffet.
Check The Renovation Calendar Before You Wire A Deposit
This is the part that would have saved somebody a lot of money last year.
Secret Retreats currently lists Soneva Kiri as under renovation until Q4 2026. Q4 2026 runs to 31 December. Your December window sits right inside that ambiguity.
So the question isn’t “is this resort nice”. The question is: on my exact dates, which restaurants are open, is the kids’ centre running, and is the main pool in service?

Get that in writing. From the property, not from a brochure.
A package agency can’t answer it because the package was priced months before your dates existed. Ali found that out on a Turkey trip when he asked for one extra day in Cappadocia and got told the itinerary doesn’t allow it. That conversation with Rahat, his wife and co-founder, is where Zaviamo started.
The Arrival Form That Costs Exactly Zero
Since 1 May 2025, every non-Thai national entering Thailand by air, land or sea must submit the Thailand Digital Arrival Card, the TDAC, which replaced the old paper TM6 form, per Siam Legal’s TDAC FAQ.
It is free on the official immigration site, submitted within three days of arrival.
Third-party sites charge for it. One even advertises a USD $8 fee just to submit early.
Pakistani passport holders are not on Thailand’s visa-exemption list, so your tourist visa still goes in advance through Thailand’s e-visa system. The TDAC is separate, and it is not a visa. If anyone quotes you a “digital arrival card fee” on top of your visa cost, that line item is invented.
Your Routing Matters More Than Usual This Winter
Honest version, because December flights from Karachi mostly touch a Gulf hub.
EASA’s conflict-zone bulletin CZIB-2026-07R2 covers the airspace of Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, the UAE and Oman, and was extended to 30 September 2026 with revised risk wording. It has been extended repeatedly through the year rather than withdrawn.
Gulf News reported in early September that UAE travellers were still seeing delays and cancellations as airlines worked around the restrictions, with Dubai, Abu Dhabi and Sharjah airports open and operating.
The Council on Foreign Relations tracker, updated 11 September 2026, still lists the US-Iran confrontation as worsening, with the Strait of Hormuz unresolved.
Nobody can tell you what December routing looks like yet. What you can do is refuse to build a trip that assumes everything runs to the minute.
A 70-minute Gulf connection, a stroller, two sleeping kids and a pre-paid speedboat that leaves Phuket at a fixed time is a bad plan in a calm year. This is not a calm year.
Longer connection. Transfer booked as flexible. Island night one, not a same-day double transfer.
What To Settle Before You Wire The Deposit
- Written confirmation of what’s open on your dates. Restaurants, kids’ club, pool, spa. Renovation windows move.
- Transfer timing in both directions. Last speedboat of the day, and what happens if your inbound flight slips by two hours.
- Halal food, specifically. Not “we can arrange”. Which kitchen, which meals, and whether the chef has done it before.
- TDAC on the official site only, inside the three-day window, one submission per traveller.
- Visa timeline for Pakistani passports, filed early enough that a December departure isn’t hostage to processing.
- Connection buffer through any Gulf hub, plus a written plan if the first leg goes sideways.
Six questions. Watch how fast a fixed itinerary runs out of answers.
Package Model Vs Custom Trip
| Package Agency | Zaviamo |
| Phuket mainland, because the transfers are simple | Koh Yao Noi or Koh Kood, because your kids get the quiet beach |
| Brochure says “resort facilities available” | Written confirmation of what’s open on your dates |
| Arrival paperwork bundled as a “service fee” | TDAC on the official site, free, we tell you how |
| 70-minute connection, sorted on the ground | Buffered routing, flexible transfer, sorted before you board |
| Office hours | WhatsApp at 11pm |

We’ve never sold a package. Not one. Every Thailand trip gets built around your dates, your kids’ bedtime and your food, which is exactly why the boat leg stops being a problem and becomes the best part of the trip.
December inventory on small island properties is thin by design. Fifty villas, not five hundred. When they’re gone, they’re gone, and the mainland strip is what’s left.

Frequently Asked Questions
Do Pakistani passport holders need a visa for Thailand?
Yes. Pakistani passport holders are not on Thailand’s visa-exemption list, so a tourist visa must be arranged in advance through Thailand’s e-visa system. Start it early for a December departure, because processing time is the part nobody controls. The Digital Arrival Card is a separate, free requirement and does not replace the visa.
Is the Thailand Digital Arrival Card the same as a visa?
No. The TDAC has been mandatory for all non-Thai nationals arriving by air, land or sea since 1 May 2025, and it replaced the old paper TM6 card. It is free on the official Thai immigration site and is submitted within three days before arrival. Third-party sites that charge for it are selling you convenience, not a permit.
Is Koh Yao Noi realistic with young children?
It can be, with the transfer planned properly. The Six Senses Yao Noi listing shows the resort 45 minutes from Phuket by speedboat, with babysitting services and villa options sized for families. The trick is arriving with daylight left and not stacking a long-haul flight, a Gulf connection and a boat ride into one day.
Which Thai island is quieter in late December?
The outer islands stay quieter than the Phuket mainland strip because they need an extra boat or flight leg. Koh Yao Noi in Phang Nga Bay and Koh Kood in the Gulf of Thailand are the two that come up most for families wanting space. Confirm resort renovation status for your exact dates before paying anything.
P.S. Soneva Kiri is listed as under renovation until Q4 2026, and Q4 ends on 31 December. If your dates fall in that window, you need a written answer before money moves, not after. Plan my Thailand trip on WhatsApp and we’ll ask the property for you.
P.P.S. Gulf airspace advisories have been extended, not withdrawn, all year. Build the buffer in now while December seats still have options.
