A longtail boat cuts its engine in Phang Nga Bay and the noise just stops.
Limestone cliffs on both sides. Your seven-year-old wants to know why there’s a football pitch floating on the water, right next to a village built on stilts.
That’s Ko Panyi. A Muslim fishing village standing over the sea, where lunch is grilled fish and rice and nobody has to interrogate a waiter about the kitchen.
It’s also the stop that disappears first when Thailand gets sold as a template. Phuket, Bangkok, one mall, one show, done.
You’re planning December. Which means you’re early enough to hold the good boats and late enough that the paperwork clock is already ticking.
Don’t Book The Andaman Coast For This Month

Short answer: September is the wrong month for Krabi and Phuket. December is the right one.
Phuket logs its heaviest rainfall of the year in September, and beach days on the Andaman side can be genuinely rough, per ThailandKnowledge. Mornings often stay clear. The rain shows up later in the day.
Fine if you’re inland at Khao Sok with a raft house and a river. Not fine if you flew five people out of Karachi for sea kayaking.
The Andaman dry swing starts in November and holds right through the winter school break. That’s the window worth locking rooms and boat charters for, and it’s the reason our Thailand planning page treats December as a booking deadline rather than a departure date.
5 Adventure Stops That Keep Kids Busy And Parents Calm
- Phang Nga Bay and James Bond Island. Long boat day, flat protected water, dramatic rock formations the kids will actually remember.
- Sea caves by kayak. Paddle into limestone hongs. Doable with a guide and a nervous nine-year-old in the front seat.
- Ko Panyi’s stilt village. Muslim village on the water. Halal lunch stop with no negotiation required.
- Khao Sok’s raft houses. Cheow Lan Lake, jungle, floating rooms. Best half of the trip in a wet week.
- Quad biking plus one resort kids’ club afternoon. Adrenaline in the morning, adults getting one silent hour by the pool after.

Rooh Travel strings a similar set of days into a 13-day halal family itinerary with lunch, snorkelling and swim stops written in.
Thirteen days doesn’t fit a Karachi school calendar in December. Eight might. Six probably does.
That gap is exactly where the package model breaks. A set itinerary hands you 13 days and tells you to buy 13 days. A custom plan asks which two stops you’d trade and rebuilds the boat days around the answer.
The Halal Part Nobody Puts In Writing
Bangkok is the easy leg. Al Meroz runs a fully halal kitchen, an alcohol-free property, and both a ladies-only pool and a mixed pool, as listed on HalalBooking.
Krabi, Khao Lak and the boat days are where things get vague.
Boat lunches are usually catered by the tour operator, not the resort. Resort buffets in Phuket often mix stations. A note in a brochure saying “halal options available” is not the same as a written confirmation from the kitchen.
So get it in writing before you pay. Which restaurant, which meal, which day, who confirmed it.
That is the boring work. It’s also the difference between day three being relaxed and day three being three adults on Google Maps while the kids melt.
Where Not To Go, Even For The Halal Food
Thailand’s three southernmost provinces are Muslim-majority, and Pakistani families sometimes assume that makes them the obvious choice.
They’re under advisory instead.
The US State Department advisory issued 7 July 2026 tells travellers to exercise increased caution in Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat due to unrest, and near the Thai-Cambodian border due to risk of armed conflict. On 22 and 23 August 2026 the Deep South saw a wave of more than 50 arson, bombing and shooting incidents across those three provinces, with an overnight curfew declared in Narathiwat, according to Thailand Insider Guide.
Muslim-friendly Thailand isn’t the far south. It’s Bangkok, Phang Nga and Krabi with the food properly sorted.
Your Paperwork, In The Order It Matters
| What | Detail | When to handle it |
| Thai e-visa | Pakistani passports aren’t on Thailand’s visa-exemption list, so plan on an application, not a stamp on arrival | Start 6 to 8 weeks before departure |
| TDAC arrival card | Thailand’s digital arrival card, submitted within 72 hours of arrival, and it is not the old Thailand Pass | The week you fly |
| The 60-to-30 headline | Thailand’s visa-exempt stay drops from 60 days to 30 for most nationalities on 15 September 2026 | Not yours to worry about, since exemption doesn’t apply to Pakistani passports anyway |
Both the arrival card timing and the September change are documented by Thailand Insider Guide and the Thai Visa Centre’s 2026 advisory guide.
December is also when Karachi visa files start queuing behind everyone else’s winter break. Six weeks out is comfortable. Two weeks out is a story you’ll tell for years, and not fondly.
Routing Out Of Karachi While The Gulf Stays Unsettled
This is where Rahat’s years inside Qatar Airways operations earn their keep, because eastbound routings right now are not business as usual.
Safe Airspace reports that EASA’s current bulletin tells operators to avoid airspace over the waters of the Persian Gulf within the Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar and UAE flight information regions, except as needed for arrivals and departures at airports inside them. ABC News reported on 5 September 2026 that US forces struck an Iranian crude oil tanker in the Gulf of Oman, with the Strait of Hormuz still the main flashpoint.
Gulf hubs are operating. They’re also carrying real short-notice disruption risk.
What that means for your booking, in plain terms:
- Build the connection with margin. A 65-minute transfer in a month like this is a bet, not a plan.
- Keep the whole trip on one ticket. Two separate tickets means a delay is your problem, not the airline’s.
- Ask for the eastern routing options, not only the cheapest Gulf hub.
- Know who’s picking up the phone at 2am Karachi time if the inbound gets rerouted.
No comparison site will do that thinking for you. Neither will a fixed itinerary printed before the news cycle moved.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Thailand safe for Pakistani families right now?
Bangkok, Phang Nga, Krabi and Phuket are the areas families normally travel to, and the main advisory concerns sit elsewhere. The US State Department’s 7 July 2026 advisory flags increased caution in Yala, Pattani and Narathiwat, and near the Thai-Cambodian border. Keep your itinerary out of those areas and check your own government’s guidance close to departure.
Do Pakistani passport holders need a visa for Thailand?
Yes. Pakistani passports aren’t on Thailand’s visa-exemption list, so you’re applying in advance rather than arriving and hoping. Separately, Thailand’s digital arrival card must be submitted within 72 hours of arrival for all travellers.
When is the best month for Phang Nga Bay and Krabi?
The Andaman dry season runs from roughly November through the winter school break, so December suits Pakistani family calendars well. September is the wettest stretch, with Phuket recording its highest monthly rainfall. If you must travel in a wet month, shift inland to Khao Sok.
Can we find halal food outside Bangkok?
Yes, but it needs arranging rather than assuming. Bangkok has fully halal hotels like Al Meroz, while Krabi and Khao Lak depend on which restaurants, resorts and boat operators you’re booked with. Get the confirmations in writing before you pay anything.

We’ve never sold a package. Zaviamo exists because Ali got handed a rigid Turkey itinerary, asked for one extra day in Cappadocia, and was told the package didn’t allow it. Rahat, his wife and co-founder, called it what it was: a reselling business, not a travel business. That’s the whole origin story.
P.S. Krabi’s good longtail operators and the family rooms with connecting doors go first for the winter break, usually 10 to 12 weeks out. You’re inside that window right now. Start planning your Thailand trip on WhatsApp.
P.P.S. If your December leans somewhere calmer than boat days and quad bikes, say so. Malaysia and Sri Lanka are on the same list, and the honest answer sometimes isn’t Thailand.
